Over the past few weeks, an unavoidable feeling of lightness, of possibility, has left me high as a kite. We'll have a new president, and, if all goes well, which the polls seem to indicate it will, that new president will be our man, Barack Obama. Democrats have been through too much shit to get cocky or complacent.
But in the past few days the feelings of camaraderie and hope have been just amazing. It seems like Obama's the only hope we've got. Jobs, most likely a lot, are cut in the coming months.
Obama will have a tough first term ahead of him. The senator mentioned the other day that it's not campaigning or winning or losing that interests him: it's governing. And one doesn't have a hard time believing this. Perhaps this is what we've needed in a president. Let's hope we get it this time.
